Samsung Galaxy Golden Combines Smartphone Features With Flip Phone Familiarity

With smartphones having just recently surpassed feature phones in the global cell phone sales market, thanks to a 46.5 percent jump in sales this past financial quarter, now would seem like an odd time for one of the world's most popular smartphone makers to take a step backwards. However, that's just what Samsung is doing with its latest edition to the Galaxy lineup of devices. The Galaxy Golden flip phone has just been debuted by the company.

Rather than sport the standard all touch screen that most smartphones do now a days, the most significant thing about the Golden is the fact that' it's also a flip phone with physical buttons on the inside. A few days ago the company launched the Hennessy Android smartphone, also a flip. This device was expected by many to hit the Chinese market. The Golden, poised to make a splash in the Korean market, was announced, but this one comes with slightly better specs.

According to Endgadget, the device will sport two 3.7" AMOLEN WVGA displays, a 1.7GHz dual-core chipset, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE support and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The device will also come with a few Samsung exclusive features like S Health, a business card reader and Easy Mode. The hope is that these features will appeal to an older generation of cell phone users who might benefit from the Health and Easy Mode features. The Galaxy Golden will, in many ways, live up to its name by being the phone for the user in his or her golden years.

As feature phones decline and more and more retailers begin to offer users nothing but smartphones, Samsung has found a way to create this hybrid of an all touch-screen smartphone with the familiarity and convenience of a flip phone, giving it the chance to hold onto those feature phone enthusiasts just a bit longer.
