The move comes just minutes after free agent shooting guard Danny Green agreed to a four-year deal worth $45 million, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard. "I'm very excited to be back, especially because it looks like we might be getting some other pieces. We have a good future," Green said via Broussard.

The Splitter deal was an apparent salary dump (he was owed $8.5 million for the 2015-16 season) and now enables the Spurs to walk into their meeting with free agent LaMarcus Aldridge with significant cap space and their main core likely returning.
As for the Hawks, acquiring Splitter likely makes it difficult for them to retain both Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll.
