NHL Free Agency TRACKER: Red Wings Sign Mike Green, Brad Richards, Oilers Add Sekera, Avs Ink Beauchemin

The hits came hard and fast once the NHL officially kicked off their free agency period for the 2015-16 season. HNGN's got you covered for all the latest NHL news.

-The Pittsburgh Penguins and GM Jim Rutherford stole the show at the outset, trading for disgruntled Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the compensation for the Leafs is Kasperi Kapanen, Scotty Harrington and a first-round pick. More to come on that deal.

Rutherford took care of a couple of other pieces of business, getting defenseman David Warsofsky signed to a one-year deal and winger Kael Mouillierat to a two-way deal, according to TSN's Frank Seravalli, and signing forward Sergei Pilotnikov. They also added defenseman Steve Olesky on a two-way deal.

-The Edmonton Oilers and Peter Chiarelli did some serious damage in the first few hours of free agency, locking up defenseman Andrej Sekera, most recently of the Los Angeles Kings, with a six-year deal and center Mark Letestu as well.

-The Colorado Avalanche, rumored to be interested in former Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin, inked the grizzled blueliner to a three-year deal worth, as first reported by Francois Gagnon of RDS.ca. Renaud Lavoie of TSN revealed it carries an average annual value of $4.5 million.

The Avs then signed forward Blake Comeau. ESPN's Katie Strang was the first to report the news and the team announced the move shortly thereafter.

-The Stanley Cup-runner up Tampa Bay Lightning added former Senators forward Erik Condra, via a three-year deal which carries an average annual value of $1.25 million, per TSN's Darren Dreger.

-New York Islanders GM Garth Snow either wasn't interested in keeping Michal Neuvirth or saw a better opportunity elsewhere because he signed back-up Thomas Greiss at the outset of the free agency period, as first reported by SiriusXM. Per ESPN, it's a two-year deal that averages $1.5 million per season.

Snow then signed 26-year-old defenseman Thomas Hickey to a three-year deal, per Chris Nichols.

-The Minnesota Wild locked up forward Mikail Granlund with a two-year, $6 million deal, per The Hockey News, then gave Nate Prosser a two-year deal of his own. They also signed forwards Zac Dalpe, Ruslan Fedotenko and Marc Hagel. Hagel's contract is two-years, Dalpe and Fedotenko are one-year.

-The Winnipeg Jets signed young defenseman Adam Pardy to a one-year, $1 million deal, per THN, then brought Alexander Burmistrov back from Russie on a two-year deal, per Sportsnet.

-The Toronto Maple Leafs, according to THN, brought Matt Hunwick back with a two-year, $2.4 million contract. They also signed former Hab P.A. Parenteau to a one-year, $1.5 million deal and Richard Panik to a one-year, $925,000 pact.

Rounding out their free agency Day One, they announced the signing of Marc Arcobello.

-The Washington Capitals brought in Taylor Chorney on a one-year, one-way, $700,000 deal, per TSN's Bob McKenzie. They also re-signed winger Stanislav Galiev on a two-year, $1.165 million pact, per THN.

-The Chicago Blackhawks reached a one-year deal with Viktor Tikhonov, who spent last season in the KHL, per ESPN's Scott Powers.

-The Arizona Coyotes and GM Don Maloney added a couple of forwards, locking up Brad Richardson on a three-year deal, per McKenzie and Steve Downie on a one-year, $1.75 million deal, per Nick Kypreos. Maloney also brought back defenseman Zbynek Michalek on a two-year deal, per Friedman.

He then ensured that Hawks playoff hero Antoine Vermette returned to the fold, via a two-year, $7.5 million deal.

-Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning did a little poaching of his old team, bringing in defenseman Matt Bartkowksi from the Bruins on a one-year deal.

-Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving continued his absolutlely phenomenal offseason by signing the perennially underrated Michael Frolik to a five-year deal. McKenzie was the first to report the deal was close and TSN's Chris Johnston revealed it was a five-year pact.

Treliving also signed Derek Grant to a two-way deal with a one-year term for $700,000.

-The Philadelphia Flyers went against the normal grain of their free agency approach and remained relatively quiet on Day One, signing Michal Neuvirth to back-up starter Steve Mason. Neuvirth got a two-year deal that carries a $1.5 million hit next year and a $1.75 million hit in 2016-17.

-The St. Louis Blues signed up-and-coming forward Jori Lehtera to a three-year contract extension, worth a reported $14.1 million, according to STLToday.com's Jeremy Rutherford. It's not Vladimir Tarasenko, but hey, it's something.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong also signed defenseman Chris Butler to a one-year deal, per TSN.

-Long-time Blues defenseman Barrett Jackman landed with the Nashville Predators on a two-year, $4 million deal, per THN. Jackman's pretty long in the tooth but adds another good veteran presence to a young Preds defensive corps.

The Preds then brought in one-time hot NHL scorer Cody Hodgson on a one-year deal worth $1.05 million, per ESPN's Craig Custance.

-The Montreal Canadiens signed Greg Pateryn to a two-year deal worth $1.6 million, per THN.

-Dean Lombardi and the Los Angeles Kings kept it simple on Day One, bringing in a replacement for the recently-departed Martin Jones in former Sabres netminder Jhonas Enroth. Enroth got a one-year, $1.25 million deal, according to LeBrun.

-The New York Rangers signed forward Matt Lindblad, Brandon Gibbons, Raphael Diaz, and Viktor Stalberg.

-The new New Jersey Devils, led by GM Ray Shero, nabbed defenseman John Moore on a three-year deal that carries an average annual value of $1.6 million, according to McKenzie.

-The Ottawa Senators, forced to watch Condra walk, added Zach Stortini, most recently of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, per Nichols. According to the report it's a two-year, two-way deal. They also agreed on a two-way deal with Mike Kostka, per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

The Sens also added Eric O'Dell via a one-year, $700,000 deal, according to THN.

-The Dallas Stars and GM Jim Nill announced the signing of left wing Curtis McKenzie to a two-year deal. They then re-signed Patrick Eaves to a one-year, $1.15 million contract. Eaves appeared in 47 games for Dallas in 2014-15.

-Tim Murray and the Buffalo Sabres reportedly remain hard at work hammering out a contract for the recently-acquired Ryan O'Reilly. In the meantime, the team has signed Cal O'Reilly, Ryan's brother, to a two-year, $1.4 million deal.

-The Detroit Red Wings landed the player considered by TSN to be the best available free agent, former Capitals defenseman Mike Green. Green's the offensively-minded, right-shooting blueliner they've been aching to add for some time, so it certainly seems like a good fit. Ken Campbell of THN reported late Friday that the Wings had come to terms on a deal with veteran forward Brad Richards. LeBrun revealed that it's a one-year deal with playoff escalators worth up to $4 million.

They also re-signed the top scorer for the Grand Rapid Griffins, Andy Miele, to a one-year deal, per MLive.com. The 27-year-old had 26 goals last season.

-The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed Riley Nash to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. They also signed Rasmus Rissanen to a one-year, $575,000 deal then gave forward T.J. Henick a one-year, two-way deal.

-Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney took a break from his roster destruction/reshaping to re-sign forward Ryan Spooner to a two-year, $1.9 million deal.

He then went right back to the roster reconstructing well, adding Matt Beleskey, formerly of the Ducks. He then shipped Marc Savard and Reilly Smith to the Florida Panthers for Jimmy Hayes.

-The Anaheim Ducks remained relatively quiet on Day One, but did sign Shawn Horcoff to a $1.75 million deal late.
