The Grateful Dead will play its last-ever concerts this weekend at Soldier Field in Chicago, but if you're a fan that couldn't score a ticket, you're not totally out of luck. There are several ways to watch or listen to the shows, dubbed "Fare Thee Well," at home or even in movie theaters.
The band's official website breaks down your options. You can purchase a stream of any or all of the three Chicago concerts via MLB.com (yes, that's Major League Baseball's website). If you purchase a show stream, you're not only be able to watch the action live but also view it on an archival basis for 30 days. You'll pay $29.95 per show or $79.95 for all three. You can also watch via YouTube for $19.95 per show, but the YouTube option will only allow you to watch the concerts in real time, with no opportunity to watch later, according to NBC Bay Area.
Many U.S. movie theaters will be screening the shows, with a full list of theaters available at Fathom Events. And Canadian and U.K. Deadheads won't be left out, as theaters in those countries will also be airing the concerts, with a full schedule of theaters available at CinemaLive.
Lastly, SiriusXM Satellite radio will be airing all of the concerts live.
The Grateful Dead played its first round of "Fare Thee Well" shows last weekend at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The final shows at Soldier Field will not only mark the 50th anniversary of the band, but also the 20th anniversary of the Dead's final show with the iconic Jerry Garcia, which was at Soldier Field on July 9, 1995. Garcia died exactly one month later.
As previously reported by HNGN, the band's four core surviving members - Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart - are being joined at their final shows by Trey Anastasio of Phish, Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti.
Earlier today, CBS This Morning reported on the Dead's final shows in Chicago, including an interview with Kreutzmann and concert promoter Peter Shapiro. You can watch the feature here.
