Amy Schumer recently defended herself against accusations that her comedy is racist after the Guardian published a piece saying the comedian has a "shockingly large blind spot about race." The "Trainwreak" star initially defended her jokes, explaining that it is her job as a comedian to joke about things people do and do not like. The funny girl has now changed her mind and apologized for racist comments she has made in the past.
The catalyst behind Schumer's apology was a tweet from someone who asked the comedian about her thought process behind jokes, in particular this one from a few years ago: "I used to date Hispanic guys, but now I prefer consensual."
Schumer admitted to doing a lot of "short dumb jokes" earlier in career. The "Inside Amy Schumer" star apologized at the end of her reply and said that she is "taking responsibility" for the jokes and hopes that she did not hurt anyone's feelings.
Schumer came under fire recently for a different joke she told while hosting the MTV Movie Awards. The comedian compared Latina women with the main character from the movie "Gone Girl":
"'Gone Girl,' how good was 'Gone Girl'? Such a good movie," joked Schumer. "If you didn't see it, it's the story of what one crazed white woman, or all Latinas, do if you cheat on them. That's a fact." In another one of her stand-up routines Schumer says, "Nothing works 100 percent of the time, except Mexicans," reported the Washington Post.
