Jeffrey Dean Morgan is heading to "The Good Wife."
The 49-year-old "Watchmen" actor has been cast as a series regular on the seventh season of the critically-acclaimed CBS legal drama series, starring actress Julianna Marguiles, Variety reported. Morgan will play Alex, "a calm, experience hourly investigator" who is hired by Marguiles' character Alicia.
"We've loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years, and we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe," executive producers Robert and Michelle King said in a press release about Morgan's casting.
Morgan's casting news comes after "The Good Wife" series regular Archie Panjabi, who played investigator Kalinda Sharma, decided to leave the show at the end of season six. Matthew Goode is also not returning as a series regular for the seventh season.
Morgan is best known for his roles as Denny Duquette on "Grey's Anatomy" and as John Winchester on "Supernatural." He also starred in the award-winning series "Magic City" and the miniseries "Texas Rising."
"The Good Wife" will return on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
