An 8-year-old Shar Pei mix named Georgia got lost in a park but walked 35 miles (56.3 km) home from Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve to Carlsbad, Calif., New York Daily News reported.
According to pet owner, Kris Anderson, the dog was chasing after rabbits when it got lost at the park. They searched for hours for the lost dog and left after being told that there are coyotes in the place that may have caused danger to their pet. But Anderson went back to the area more than once to search for her dog.
Anderson, 64, was told she should give up on finding her lost dog but together with her daughter, they drove to the preserve every day hoping the find their beloved dog, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
After nine days of her pet being missing, Anderson was woken up at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning by someone bursting into the bedroom and joining her in bed. It was Georgia!
The 30-pound dog had a few scratches and was hungry. Veterinarian Luis Lizarraga examined Georgia and said that she was in remarkable shape despite enduring traffic, a torrential rainstorm, Fourth of July fireworks and even predators, Toronto Sun reported.
After the incident, Anderson said that she thought letting her pet off her leash was okay but she knows better now.
"I loved to let her off-leash because it's her spirit and her light to run, but I'm taking a vow now that I won't do that anymore," she said, according to the Union-Tribune.
