Connecticut police said Tuesday that they had found the body of a 7-month-old baby boy they believe may have been tossed into a river by his father, who had tried to kill himself at the same time.
Middletown police responded to a report of a body found in the river near East Haddam, Conn. around 8 p.m., the department said in a statement. Detectives and Connecticut State Police confirmed the body was that of Aaden Moreno, who had been missing since early Monday, according to The Huffington Post.
Aaden's father, Tony Moreno, reportedly called relatives on the phone Sunday night and threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the Arrigoni Bridge in Middletown. The relative Moreno spoke to told police they heard Aaden in the background, the Canada Journal reported.
When police arrived, they reported seeing Moreno jump from the bridge but didn't see Aaden. A search for the infant was conducted and scheduled to end at nightfall due to low visibility on Tuesday and resume in the morning.
Tony was listed in critical condition at Hartford Hospital. He was listed as alert and stable, authorities said, according to CNN.
While no charges have been filed against Tony, Middletown Mayor Daniel Drew said that the state's attorneys office is investigating the matter, adding that charges are expected.
