The New York Knicks are coming off their worst season in franchise history, and surely if you asked any of their fans if they have done anything right since last season their answer would likely be a loud no. Many Knicks fans were not happy with them using the number four overall pick on Kristaps Porzingis, but it remains to be seen what he can do at the NBA level. The Knicks have also recently struck out in free agency, missing all of the big targets and settling for Arron Afflalo, Robin Lopez, Derrick Williams and Kyle O'Quinn.
Somebody from last year's Knicks team that brought some pretty good play and some particularly good laughs was Alexey Shved, whom the Knicks are considering bringing back for next season, according to the New York Post. If the Knicks were to bring back Shved it would be for the $2.8 million exception that is given to teams under the cap that have reached the cap benchmark.
Shved, though, isn't the only player the Knicks are willing to use that exception on. They have also been linked to both Caron Butler and Willie Green, according to NJ.com. Shved might have the edge over the other two if only for the major age difference. Shved is 26 years old while both Butler and Green are 35.
Besides the Knicks potentially giving him an offer, Shved also has interest from two other NBA teams and a bunch from European teams.
In 16 games with the Knicks last season Shved averaged 14.8 points per game while shooting 37 percent from the three point line. Overall in 2014-15 Shved had his best NBA season averaging 10.3 points per game (career high) with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Houston Rockets and the Knicks.
Although the Knicks have already done a lot of work in free agency, they still have five roster spots to fill and some cap room with which to fill said spots. With the moves they made and getting a hopefully healthy Carmelo Anthony back the Knicks should be in much better shape than last season, and who knows, they may even sneak into a playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference.
