‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 RUMORS: Bran Returning to Series?

Fans of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" were aware that the character of Bran would not be present for season five. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss had revealed that Bran would be on the sidelines after the show fully caught up to his storyline from the novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" in season four and that he would return as a fully trained warg and seer. The duo likened his on-screen journey to that of Luke Skywalker, who appeared as a fully-fledged Jedi Knight at the start of "Return of the Jedi."

But will Bran be returning in season six after off-screen training? Sara Moran of Screen Rant seems to think so.

"Now that most of Game of Thrones' many plot threads have been brought up to speed with the novels, it only makes sense for Bran to return in season 6," Moran wrote. "And as for how? Well, one of the last moments readers are with Bran in A Dance With Dragons involves him connection his consciousness with the Heart Tree at Winterfell. While connected with the weirwood he sees visions of the past, including his father and the old Kings of Winter. But it is also implied that he can contact someone in the present through a weirwood tree - while Theon is in Winterfell's godswood, he thinks he hears Bran's voice.

"If contacting people through the vast network of weirwoods is indeed a possibility, then there's a good chance it is through one of these trees and their carved faces that Bran may make his dramatic return. Whether it's to witness some major event or to offer aide to someone in peril (possibly Theon or Sansa) remains to be seen, but it's a strong theory that this ability to see and communicate through the weirwood faces could be key to Bran's future."

This is only one writers opinion and in no way a confirmed plan for Bran's character. But it does make a certain amount of sense. The Three-Eyed Raven is clearly a very powerful individual. Helping Bran develop his own abilities and travel through the network of weirwood trees would enable the last Stark overseer of Winterfell to "fly" as he put it. It also may lead to a glimpse of Jon Snow's true parentage.

For now, this is all just speculation but let us know what you think in the comments section below.
