Miss USA Names New Hosts: Todd Newton, Alex Wehrley On Board Following Trump Backlash

Game show host Todd Newton and former Miss Wisconsin USA Alex Wehrley have been announced as the new hosts of the Miss USA Pageant, replacing original hosts Cheryl Burke, Thomas Roberts and Jeannie Mai who dropped out following Donald Trump's and anti-immigrant comments.

Julie Alexandria was also added to the mix and will be acting as a backstage correspondent, Fox News reported.

"As a TV host there are few stages more iconic than that of #MissUSA. Politics play no part. For me it's all about putting on a great show," Newton tweeted Tuesday, later adding, "We're going to give em the show they deserve."

Following Trump's comments, Emmitt Smith dropped out as a judge and both Flo Rida and Latin singer J Balvin pulled their appearances. Craig Wayne Boyd and Jonathan Scott also quit the pageant due to Miss USA co-owner Trump's controversial remarks.

The news comes just three days before Sunday's telecast of the show, which will now air on the Reelz channel after both NBCUniversal and Univision cut ties with Trump. Trump's comments including him saying Mexicans are "rapists" who are "bringing drugs" into America.

"The decision on the part of REELZ to acquire the rights to the Miss USA Pageant was based on our belief that this special event, and the women who compete in it, are an integral part of American tradition," Stan E. Hubbard, CEO of Reelz, said in a statement.

"As one of only a few independent networks, we decided to exercise our own voice and committed ourselves to bringing this pageant to American viewers everywhere. For us, this decision is about the dreams of the contestants who come from all walks of life across the United States, the city of Baton Rouge that has proudly come together to host this pageant and the viewers who will be watching and celebrating its 54th year on television. The Miss USA Pageant is a perfect fit on REELZ where movies, entertainment and celebrity come together every day of the year."

The pageant will also be streamed on Miss USA's website.
