Alvin, Simon and Theodore are back this Christmas with a new adventure, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip,” and Fox released the first trailer for the fourth film in the animated/live-action franchise this week, which looks to be another fun flick for the entire family!
In the new film, the adorable chipmunks learn that Dave (Jason Lee) is going to propose to his girlfriend in New York City and then freak out, believing he will dump them to make room for his new family. “They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother,” stated the movie's official synopsis.
Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney reprise their roles as the voices of Alvin, Simon and Theodore, respectively. Tony Hale is the film’s villain. Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Bella Thorne also star in the comedy.
“I may or may not be singing in it ;),” teased Thorne recently on Instagram.
The three previous flicks in the series—“Alvin and the Chipmunks” (2007), “The Squeakquel” (2009) and “Chipwrecked” (2011)—have a combined domestic box office of more than $560 million and $1.1 billion worldwide, according to ComingSoon.net, not to mention all the money raked in from the assorted merchandising that goes with a kids’ film of this magnitude.
“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” opens Dec. 23. Watch the full trailer below.
