RGIII News: Redskins Quarterback Jokes about his Latest Fine; Still Showing 'Patience' in His Return to the Field

Robert Griffin III was recently fined for his choice of apparel during a warmup prior to the Redskins preseason football game on Monday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the Associated Press.

Griffin donned an “Operation Patience” T-Shirt before the game, which prompted the $10,000 fine from the NFL for “unauthorized apparel.” (“Operation Patience” has been the sophomore quarterback’s slogan on his journey to return to the field. He has had to show “patience” as the team progressively gives him more time on the practice field following last season’s knee injury.)

If there were strikes for breaking the NFL’s Dress Code rule, Griffin would be out. This is the third time he’s violated the NFL’s policy on proper apparel.

Prior to the Redskins’ regular season opener in 2012, Griffin covered over the Nike logo on his warm-up jersey. He received a warning. Then, the Redskins’ star quarterback wore adidas apparel after his team’s Week 15 matchup against the Browns. This time he did not get off easy, and was hit with his first $10,000 fine.

Friday, Griffin joked about the fine at the Redskins’ annual Welcome Home Luncheon. There he received their award for offensive player of the year. He received the award after the team had an auction to fundraise for charity.

"Those auctioneers did a good job," Griffin said to the listening audience, according to the AP. "I would've given them 10 grand, but the NFL took it away from me this week."

The Redskins open the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles, Sept. 9 on Monday Night Football.
