One woman at the John Deere Classic Pro-Am on Wednesday made the foolish mistake of identifying herself as a St. Louis Cardinals fan to lifelong Chicago Cubs fan Bill Murray. "Satan's messengers on Earth," he called her precious Red Birds.
"And then it turns out your team is cheaters, too," Murray added, referring to the recent FBI investigation of the Major League Baseball team.
The exchange came after the 64-year-old comedian asked the crowds lined up along the golf course in Silvis, Ill., if they had seen his beloved Cubs sweep the Cards in a doubleheader the day before.
And it wasn't just the poor woman who got no lovin' from Murray, according to Quad-City Times. When a young boy wearing a Cards cap asked for an autograph, Murray asked "Are you a Cardinals fan?" and then told him to "get out of here. Rotten kid." He then continued his walk down the fairway.
Despite his rivalry with the Cardinals fans, Murray was happy to pose for selfies, sign autographs and joke around with large crowds lining the course to watch him play 18 holes with pro and good friend D.A. Points. He completed his round in just over five and half hours.
Murray sliced his tee shot on the second hole into the deep rough and asked all the nearby kids to help him search. He invited one woman to sit on his lap as he got a ride on the golf cart to the third tee and he pulled his cousin, Cathy Hughes, from the crowd to hit his tee shot on Hole 12.
The next day, Murray traveled west to attend his first San Diego Comic Con to promote his new movie, "Rock the Kasba." Dressed as his character, Richie Glanz, the actor delighted the Hall H audience when he told them, "Some of the best parties I've ever been to were with really insane nerds," and recounted a story about one such party at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch.
