Residents of Cheyenne Mountain Estates, a Colorado Springs community, are upset after a bear was found shot to death in the front yard of a home. No one knows who killed the 400 pound bear or why they did it.
The dead bear was discovered in Alice Tinder's front yard July 10. Tinder's son was the first to spot the carcass lying just 10 feet from the road, according to the Examiner.
Officials are offering a reward in the amount of $500 to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
The Cheyenne Mountain Estates residents are upset about the death because they considered the bear a part of their lives, reported Yahoo! News.
"It's really disappointing because he was such a part of our lives up here," stated Nick Bonck, a local resident. "That's the reason you live up here on the mountain... to live around the animals. For somebody to take a shot at him like that, it's disheartening that somebody would do that."
Colorado Parks and Wildlife stated that the person responsible for the incident could face a fine of $20,000, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Not all encounters with bears are created equal. Last week, HNGN reported about an incident where a bear in Canada was shot and killed because she was found raiding a freezer full of meat and salmon.
