Salty Brine Beach Evacuated, Reopened Following Day

Salty Brine Beach, a beach in Narragansett, R.I., has reopened a day after an unexplained blast injured a woman.

State Department of Environmental Management spokeswoman Rayna Maguire stated on Sunday that Salty Brine State Beach was open again and that there was no new information on the cause of the explosion.

The explosion happened at around 11:15 am on Saturday, throwing a woman several feet into the air and onto the rocks, authorities said, according to ABC News. The woman was taken to South County Hospital and is now conscious and alert.

State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell said Saturday night the investigation found no evidence that an explosive device was involved in the incident, according to AP.

Some witnesses reported smelling a sulfur-like smell, leading some to believe that the explosion was the result of a lightning strike, according to Examiner.com.

Authorities didn't seek any suspects throughout the investigation and concluded that there was no apparent threat to public safety.
