A survey has shown that most single men in Britain that are aged from 18 to 25 change their sheets on an average of four times within a year.
The said survey was conducted by Ergoflex UK, a company that makes memory foam mattresses. According to them, 55 percent of Britain’s younger bachelors change their sheets every 3.1 months. Seventeen percent of single men had also revealed that a prospective romantic partner gets turned off at the sight of a dirty bed.
On a more positive note, 62 percent of women aged 35 to 50 changes their sheets at least once a week. However, once a man enters into a relationship, eight out of 10 women assume bed changing roles and change the sheets of their partner every 2.3 weeks.
Steven Willis of Ergoflex had warned that changing the sheets less often would result to a growth of dust mites which are small parasites that thrive on human skin cells and some forms of organic waste. While they can be found lurking in several spots inside the house, they actually prefer environments that are warm, dark, and have a constant supply of food such as the bed. A high concentration of allergens from dust mite provides a risk factor to gain allergies and other diseases such as hay fever and asthma. To get rid of dust mites, one must wash his bed linens at least once a week using hot water with a temperature of 130 degrees F or even higher.
Other annoying illegal bed occupants are the bed bugs which can be spotted in the interior cavities of some types of mattresses and bed bases. These bugs tend to bite those who are sharing the bed with them. In order to prevent bed bugs, one must wash the sheet and all bedding linens then dry them up in a ‘hot’ setting. Likewise, floors, walls, and furniture should also be vacuumed.
