Rumors began to spread about Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott this past weekend as they were seen packing up the contents of their home. Many believed they were downsizing because of money problems, but the truth is a much simpler, and less dramatic, reason.
This all comes just a few weeks after the couple had a huge yard sale as they prepared for the move, according to The Daily Mail. As they packed up their Encino, California home last week, it was believed that the family of six just couldn't afford the mansion any longer. In reality, their lease was just up.
"Tori and Dean moved into a new house, it's the same number of bedrooms and everything," a source close to Spelling, 42, clarified to Us Weekly. "They just moved because their lease was up, nothing more to it than that. It was not a downsizing thing.
The "Beverly Hills, 90210" actress spoke about their financial struggles before, on her Lifetime series "True Tori," so it makes sense that people assumed this could have had something to do with them moving out.
"We live paycheck to paycheck!" she said on the show last fall. "After [True Tori] I have no f**king idea if work's going to come in. Like, how am I going to support my family in six months?"
Spelling does come from a wealthy family, but her relationship with her mother, Candy, hasn't exactly been the best over the years. Back in November, Candy admitted that she had not helped her daughter or her family financially at all.
"In my recovery, all I can is be honest, and no. There's no financial help," McDermott told Access Hollywood.
When Spelling's father, who was worth $600 million, passed away in 2006, she only inherited $800,000 because she's had some irresponsible spending habits in the past.
The second season of their reality show ended in December and it is unclear whether or not "True Tori" will be returning for a third season.
