Director Guillermo del Toro recently confirmed that "Pacific Rim 2," long stuck in developmental limbo, will finally be moving forward.
Talking with Yahoo, del Toro revealed that after several production delays, "Pacific Rim 2" will indeed begin filming this November. You would think that giant alien monster fighting giant robots couldn't be topped, but del Toro promises even more crazy action in the sequel.
"We have an epic battle at the end [that] we started designing a couple weeks ago," he said.
As of right now, there are few details known about the actual story of the film. Rumors suggest that it will take place a few years after the events of the first film and will focus more on the Kaiju and the alternate dimensions from which they come. That means the war against these monsters may not be over and that Earth isn't necessarily in the clear just yet.
"Pacific Rim 2" still does not have any stars attached to it, though del Toro has hinted that Charlie Day's Dr. Newton Geiszler and Burn Gorman's Gottlieb will return. It is unknown if Charlie Hunnam or Rinko Kikuchi will return. Hunnam and Gorman are both in del Toro's upcoming gothic horror film "Crimson Peak," so at least they can pester the director constantly if they want back in.
"Pacific Rim 2" will hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
