A representative for George Michael has strenuously denied allegations that the singer is addicted to crack cocaine, labeling the allegations "highly inaccurate." This comes after a recent report suggested that the 52-year-old hitmaker has been in rehab for over a year to treat his crack cocaine addiction.
Jackie Georgiou, who is the wife of George's cousin Andros, said that the singer's entire family was scared that he was going to die."Before he went away he got to the point where he would be shaking, saying 'I need it,'" Georgiou tells The Sun.
"Whilst it is our general policy not to comment on private matters, we would in this instance note that these highly inaccurate stories have been apparently provided to the press by the wife of a very distant family member, neither of whom has had any dealings with him for seventeen years," Michael's rep told Entertainment Tonight.
The rep added: "It is therefore unsurprising that they are so incorrect. Beyond this we have no further comment to make as the matter is now in the hands of Mr. Michael's lawyers."
Michael also took to Twitter to address the allegations, urging his fans to "not believe this rubbish in the papers today by someone I don't know anymore and haven't seen for nearly 18 years."
"I am perfectly fine and enjoyed Wimbledon like the rest of you. Wish it went to 5 sets though!...," he added.
The singer had been arrested twice in the past in relation to drugs. He was arrested in 2008 at a public toilet in North London for possession of drugs and then again in 2010 for admitting to driving under the influence of drugs.
