Labor Day 2013: 8 Things New Yorkers Must Do on their Day Off (VIDEO, LIST)

So you finally have the day off work, eh?

Monday, Sept. 2 is Labor Day, and for those who don't have to toil away behind the computer, the register, or the bar, that means a glorious afternoon to do whatever the hell you please.

Here are five ways to take advantage of this federal holiday that marks the official end of summer.

For the families.
If you've got kids in tow, check out the Richmond County Fair on Staten Island. This down-home, old-timer fair takes place in Historic Richmond Town, and will offer live rock and country musical performances, pie and hot dog eating contests, arts and crafts projects, and more.
Want to stay local? Pier 84 at West 44 Street and Hudson River will host the annual Running of the Great North River Tugboat Race and Competition. Not only can you and your little ones cheer on the tiny boats, there is also much-needed space to run around.

Richmond County Fair: Saturday, August 31, 2013 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 441 Clarke Avenue, Historic Richmond Town. $16 admission at the door, pre-sale tickets $15. Kids under 30 inches tall get in free.
Running of the Great North River Tugboat Race & Competition: Sunday, September 1, 2013 10:00 a.m., at West 44 Street and Hudson River. Free admission.

For the hypebeasts.
Record company Fool's Gold knows the importance of a day off. Their free party, the Fool's Gold Day Off, will be held at the Williamsburg Park in Brooklyn from 2p.m. to 10 p.m. Catch performances by artists like Duck Sauce, Danny Brown, Migos, and A$AP Ferg, who recently released his breakout album "Trap Lord". RSVP is needed to attend this event, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. This event is for attendees 18 and up. Peep the flyer for more details here.

It wouldn't be a proper day off for a hypebeast without shopping. Barney's Warehouse Sale offers savings of up to 75 percent on Alexander Wang sweaters and Proenza Schouler sandals. Rumor has it that savings after Labor Day Monday will be off the chain.

Fool's Gold Day Off: Monday, September 2, 2013 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., at 50 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn.
Barney's Warehouse Sale: Going on now. Check out the department store on September 3, the day after Labor Day, for increased savings. In-store or online: www.barneyswarehouse.com.

For the museum-goers.
Surprisingly, there are a fair amount of museums open on Labor Day, including The Guggenheim, the Museum of Natural History and MoMa. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is open on Monday as well, as part of Bloomberg's "Met Holiday Mondays"- sponsored programs. Since weather forecasts for Monday predict a 30 percent chance of rain and potential thunderstorms scattered throughout the day, it might be the perfect chance to check out that Le Corbusier exhibit at the MoMa you've been thinking about going to.

Guggenheim: 1071 5 Avenue at 89 Street. Open Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Museum of Natural History: Central Park West at 79 Street. Open Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:25 p.m.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMa): 11 West 53 Street. Open Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art: 1000 Fifth Avenue at 82 Street. Open Monday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
