One day after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, 50 Cent downplayed the move as a preventative measure while promoting his new film "Southpaw."
"I'm taking the precautions that any other good businessperson would take in this situation," the rapper told E! News at a "Southpaw" junket. "You know when you're successful and stuff, you become a target. I don't wanna be a bull's eye. I don't want anybody to pick me as the guy that they just come to with astronomical claims and go through all that."
50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, filed bankruptcy yesterday following a sex tape lawsuit that cost him a lot of money. A jury awarded Lavonia Leviston $5 million after they determined the hip-hop star leaked a sex tape of her and another man, Rolling Stone reported.
The rapper/actor was very casual as he discussed his money troubles. "Walt Disney has filed bankruptcy. Donald Trump has filed bankruptcy," he said. "It means you're reorganizing your finances, but it does stop things from moving forward that you don't want moving forward. I gotta decent legal team. You don't have to worry."
