It's been close to a year since Ciara and fiancé rapper Future ended their engagement - and although the media blamed their split on the rapper's infidelity, Future is claiming that he and Ciara just "grew apart."
During an interview with HuffPost Live on Monday, the 31-year-old rapper was asked about his personal life, including his failed engagement with former girlfriend, Ciara, 29, whom he shares son Future Zahir Wilburn.
"Everybody already had their speculation on what happened," he told HuffPost Live. "A lot of people said, 'Man, he cheated.' But our relationship had nothing to do with cheating. We grew apart. As a man, you want to make decisions for your family, and sometimes the lady doesn't see what you see. I called [the engagement] off long before any cheating rumors came out. I was like, 'This isn't going to work out.'"
Us Weekly reported Ciara called off her engagement after she reportedly caught Future cheating on her just three months after she gave birth. A source at the time said the singer was "very embarrassed" when the reports were made public.
When questioned about his nuptials, Future told the HuffPost that he did not want the attention of being in a high-profile relationship, saying he did not want the media at his nuptials.
"I was like 'I'll marry you today. You want to get married, let's get married.' But I'm not getting married with all these different people in my wedding. My family have to be there. I'm from the hood, hood people going to be there. It might be people that you don't like that's going to be there," he explained. "I don't want nobody from the industry there. Soon as I get married and I go in the strip club, they're going to be like 'Ciara's husband is in the strip club!' They going always put something on it. They're going to have a story to tell and I don't want that headline story."
Future also made a few questionable statements when ask about his past sex life with Ciara, now that the singer and her current boyfriend Russell Wilson have vowed to remain abstinent until marriage. Wilson recently revealed that God asked him to lead his girlfriend.
"God told me something else. He ain't tell me to wait. I guarantee you that," he said. "We prayed afterward though. After we did it, we prayed. That's a true story."
Ciara took to Twitter to comment on her ex's interview.
"Some Person Is So Dishonest and Ignorant That They Don't Deserve A Response," she wrote. Adding, "Furthermore, One's Main Focus Should Be On Being A Good Parent."
