Let’s jump right to the chase. Here’s the list of people who resigned after yesterday’s episode:
Mac
Charlie
Will
The good news? Leona Lansing doesn’t take their resignation.
If you didn’t like Jerry Dantana before, you really won’t like him now. During this episode, we finally get to see the last Red Team meeting. This time, Will’s in the room.
After everyone sees the pieces of evidence once more, the team is asked to share their doubts about the story one last time. And once more Jerry Dantana shoots them down with righteous indignation.
So everyone finally turns to Will and, of course, he has the final say.
He says yes—and the story runs. From then on, everything falls apart. More to the point, each piece of evidence falls apart. Let’s take the evidence piece by piece and discuss how each one completely crumbled:
Lance Cpl. Herman Valenzuela—Mackenzie did the interview with Valenzuela. As the story begins to die she questions her own part in gathering information for the Genoa story. After reading the transcript she realizes she was asking leading questions and that Valenzuela hadn’t offered any original information.
Gen. Stanislaus Stomtonovich— We already know Dantana altered the footage from his interview with the General. It was just a matter of time before everyone figured it out. Unfortunately, for ACN his deceit wasn’t discovered until after the story ran. Mac figures out the jump cut when she goes back to look at the footage once more. During Stomtonovich’s interview with Jerry he requested March Madness be left on while he was being questioned. Mac finally notices the jump cut when the shot clock in the college basketball game jumps, not couting down in the correct order. She confronts Jerry in an elevator and he is fired.
Munitions Manifest –This piece of evidence was handed to Charlie by a pretty high-up government source. Unfortunately for Charlie and ACN, this source had a vendetta against the news network. He had a son who was fired by ACN and eventually died. The source blames Charlie and ACN for what happened and was waiting for the right time to ruin them. So, after the source learned Dantana was looking into a bogus story, he fed Charlie the faulty evidence. He knew the news network would run it and that it would do major damage. After he admits this to Charlie he tells ACN’s news president to read the manifest directly under light because it contained a hidden message. What did the hidden message say?—“F*** You Charlie”
Gunnery Sgt. Eric Sweeney – When the team first discussed the story with Sweeney he said he had won a purple heart for two stab wounds. After ACN ran the story with Will as the anchor, the network ran it a second time on Elliott’s program. During Elliots’ interview with Sweeny he mentioned he suffered a brain injury, something he didn’t mention the first time. What was one of the major symptoms of his brain injury? Memory loss.
While all this is going on the Benghazi attacks of the fall of 2012 have begun. Unfortunately for ACN News, their recent problem may hamper their ability to cover the Benghazi story.
At the end of last night’s episode Leona Lewis declares she is not going down without a fight. Charlie reiterates to her that he, Will and Mac must resign to retain the network’s integrity. He tells her that they no longer have the trust of the people.
Her response comes more like a commanding officer rather than the owner of a cable company.
“Get it Back!”
