German Shop Treats Dogs With Liverwurst Ice Cream

In Germany, when the weather is hot and the temperature is rising, dogs are lapping up liverwurst-flavored ice cream, reported Deutsche Welle.

While its owner gets his or her own scoop of ice cream, the canine can also enjoy a cold treat from Leonardo Caprarese's ice cream shops in and around the northern German city of Bremen.

The ice cream has been specially concocted by Caprarese for dogs since 2009. The snack is sugar-free and mainly contains water and carrot juice. Besides liverwurst, other flavors for dogs include beef and chicken, which they also love.

According to Caprarese, the idea came up when he noticed that customers ordered ice cream for themselves and their dogs, which made him worry about the sugar content, which might be harmful for dogs.

Hence, he developed a sugar-free version to cater to the canine class. Four-legged customers responded positively to the new ice cream flavors.

"Most of them gobble it in one go," said Caprarese, according to the Australian, "but there are also some that lick it up."
