Demi Lovato is joining the cast of "Glee" for season 5, set to play a struggling NYC artist named Dani who befriends Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Santana (Naya Rivera). Word is that Lovato will be doing more than singing musical numbers, as Rivera recently confirmed Lovato will play her love interest.
In a red carpet interview with MTV News at the 2013 VMAs, Rivera teased some info about the upcoming season, including the role of Lovato's character and how it will affect her own. When asked by the interviewer what she think Lovato will add to the mix, Rivera responded, "Everything, I mean she's playing my love interest so I'm very, very excited about that. We get to sing a song together.
As for what musical number Lovato will be doing, Rivera teased, "She comes in during the Beatles episode so a Beatles song." With someone with a set of pipes as impressive as Lovato's, it's not hard to picture her slaying any musical number, and we can't wait to see what she and Rivera will be singing together!
Adam Lambert has also confirmed that he's on board for season 5, set to play a character that Lovato will frequently interact with. "Glee" marks Lovato's first return to acting since she left her Disney channel show "Sonny With a Chance" in 2010 to enter treatment, and the star has already tweeted excitedly about her return to television, and Rivera added that the cast is bringing Lovato to "the dark side."
We're expecting FOX to do some double Lovato promo, as the singer will reprise her role as a judge and mentor on this season of "The X-Factor," which premieres on September 11 and 12 at 8/7c.
