Shopping In High Heels Leads To Better Spending Habits?

Ladies, if you can spend an entire day at a shopping mall, and the next day have buyer's remorse because of your purchases, you may want to consider new ways to limit your spending.

Researchers at BYU say heels are your best friends against over spending during your shopping trip. A new study suggests a heightened sense of balance may protect you from credit card debt.

"Consumers experiencing a heightened sense of balance are more likely to weigh the options and go with a product that falls in the middle of the high-end, low-end scale," BYU said in a news release.

The findings were published in the Journal of Marketing Research.

"If you're someone who tends to overspend, or you're kind of an extreme person, then maybe you ought to consider shopping in high heels," said study author Jeffrey Larson, a BYU marketing professor.

University researchers discover anything causes your mind to focus on balance affects will lead to better spending choices. For example, "balancing consumers are more likely to go with the 42-inch TV for $450 rather than the $300 32-inch set or the 50-inch screen for $650."

"We need to sit back for a minute and consider, 'Is this really what I want, or are the shoes I'm wearing influencing my choice?'" study coauthor Darron Billeter said in a news release. "We need to be more aware of what is influencing our choices."

Don't feel like wearing heels to go shopping? Good news is there are other options for you, including:

1. Leaning back on a chair while shopping online

2. Playing a Wii Fit game while simultaneously answering questions about product choices

3. Standing on one foot while considering which printer to purchase

4. Going shopping right after yoga class
