An Iraqi woman who claimed she came to the U.S. because Baghdad was "hell," has been charged in the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in western Michigan, according to CBS Local.
Azal Saleh, 22, has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct against a young girl who was spending the night at a home where Saleh was living. The victim was asleep in the same bedroom as the Iraqi national when Saleh allegedly touched her beneath her clothing.
The teenager told authorities that Saleh was rubbing her arm and chest when she asked her to stop what she was doing, to which Saleh responded saying that it was a normal thing for friends to do. The touching then moved from over the clothes to under the and then to the girl's pubic region, before she told the older woman that she was menstruating, which stopped the molestation, according to Grand Rapids Press.
A refugee services organization had placed the Iraqi national at the home, where the teenager was visiting family friends. Saleh, who moved to the United States five years ago, said "a lot of bad things happened" to her in Iraq and she "came from hell, mistreated and bused," according to The Detroit Free Press.
