The summer league is coming to a close on Sunday and, like any year, this years summer league has provided a lot of surprises. One of the biggest surprises in the summer league thus far has been Seth Curry, little brother of MVP Stephen Curry. Seth has been playing his summer league basketball with the New Orleans Pelicans and has impressed so much that he might get a shot to make the team and show what he can do during the regular season according to NOLA.com.
So far during the summer league, Curry has led his team to the number four seed in the playoffs and leads the whole league in points, as he is averaging 25 points per game. Curry reportedly looks stronger this year and is excelling because he is being used at shooting guard more than point guard. Curry is capable of playing both guard positions, but he is better served as a shooting guard since he is not a great ball handler. However, he is also undersized to be an NBA shooting guard at 6-foot-2. The problem for him would likely be on the defensive end covering guys like Dwyane Wade, Joe Johnson and others who have a lot of size on him.
One thing Curry has always proven is that he can really shoot the ball and has now added the ability to score in a variety of different ways. In his last summer league game, Curry scored 26 points but only made one three pointer.
Curry has not had much of an opportunity to stick with a team in the NBA yet. He has been on three teams NBA rosters in the past two seasons but has played a total of 21 minutes in four games and taken a grand total of six shots in his NBA career. The former Duke Blue Devil has spent most of his time the past couple of years in the D-League, where he has been dominant. Curry's numbers in his two seasons in the D-League were 21.9 points and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 43 percent from three.
Curry will turn 25 years old in August, and it seems like the time is now for him to finally play a role in the NBA. Curry has done all he can really do in every place he has gone, whether that be the D-League or the summer league, and there is definitely a role for someone that shoots the ball as well as he does on an NBA team. With his dominance in the summer league this year, it seems like Curry is on track to finally stick with an NBA team, whether that be the Pelicans or someone else.
