It had previously been reported that "Pacific Rim" star Charlie Hunnam was a front runner for the role of Christian Grey but Variety shut the rumors down. According to their source, an official casting decision hadn't been made even though his name was on list of possible actors to star as the troubled billionaire.
Now, reports have surfaced that Hunnam WAS offered a role but turned it down because he didn't want to commit to the trilogy. If these rumors are true, he would be the second actor to pass on the movie role. According to Variety, a source revealed that executives met with the 33-year-old actor but he didn't want the role but he is now having second thoughts.
The magazine reports that he was supposed to have met with executives and producers a couple days ago to discuss the gig. There could be some truth to this latest casting rumors since E.L. James, Michael de Luca and other "Team 50" members are currently in Los Angeles for meetings.
Other names are reportedly being considered for the role such as Christian Cooke ("Magic City") and Theo James ("Divergent"). It is also being reported that casting news for Grey could happen as early as Labor Day but Steele may take a little longer.
Dana Brunetti recently did an interview with Blog Talk Radio and said that chemistry between the two leads needs to be excellent or the movie is going to be a flop. After Grey is cast, "chemistry shots" will be filmed to determine which actress is the best fit.
Dakota Johnson is the most recent name to pop up as a top contender for Anastasia Steele. According to several reports she is a favorite among producers. Other names on the list are Alicia Vikander, Imogen Poots and Shailene Woodley.
Production is expected to begin at the end of October, Variety reports. Could you see Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey?
