Even NASCAR drivers get into fender benders! Jeff Gordon's car suffered damage after it was clipped in a collision with Clint Bowyer's car at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., this past weekend, reported Fox Sports.
Gordon was backing his No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet out of his garage stall during morning practice Saturday as Bowyer was driving through the garage area to his stall, according to SB Nation. Bowyer had nowhere else to go and could not avoid clipping the back of Gordon's car with the nose of his No. 15 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota.
Bowyer's car only suffered minor damage to the front right end, but Gordon's car needed immediate repairs after the right rear quarter panel sustained heavy damage. The incident was unintentional and was due to a lack of communication between both drivers' teams, reported NBC Sports.
"The guy that backs me out looked over, I guess he was just starting to back me out," Gordon told NASCAR. "I crept out there and he cleared me, but the No. 15 [Bowyer] probably couldn't really see me because of that pit cart."
"There are so many people in here," said Bowyer, according to NASCAR. "There's just so much going on [in the garage]. It's a wonder that stuff doesn't happen more often."
Bowyer's car returned to the track quickly, but Gordon missed the rest of the session. His team assisted crew chief Alan Gustafson with removing the damaged panel and welding a new one into place. No. 24 returned to the track in time for final practice at noon.
