Bruce Springsteen returned to his old haunt on the Jersey Shore and played a surprise set at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, Billboard reported. The Boss showed up unannounced and joined long-time friend and fellow musician Joe Grushecky on stage and played his best-known hits.
Springsteen crashed the Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers' show on Saturday just 10 minutes into the band's set. He enlisted the help of Grushecky's band as he ripped into a two-hour-long set that included "Adam Raised A Cain," "Atlantic City" and "Light of Day," according to Rolling Stone.
The pair worked together in the past, and Springsteen produced Grushecky's 1995 album "American Babylon." Grushecky co-wrote the Boss' hit "Code Of Silence," which won a Grammy Award in 2004 for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance. Springsteen regularly plays "surprise" sets with Grushecky at the annual concert that benefits the Light Of Day Foundation, just a short walk down the Asbury Park boardwalk at the Paramount Theatre.
Word about Springsteen's impromptu concert spread and the venue quickly filled its 300-person capacity and a crowd gathered outside of the famed bar.
"Even the whole street got completely packed with people," Debbie DeLisa, Wonder Bar owner, told CNN. "It was insane."
The Boss acknowledged the audience outside and dedicated a song to the "people out in the street."
"It was thrilling," DeLisa said. "It was a magical night."
