A World Superbike Race at Mazda Raceway, Laguna Seca in Monterey County, California, resulted in two motorcycllists' deaths on Sunday, July 19, 2015, after a chain-reaction crash took place at the start of the second race.
Bernat Martinez, a Spanish rider was immediately transported to the Community Hospital of Monterey, Peninsula but later died. He was was 35 years old. Daniel Rivas, 27, of Moana Galicia Spain, was transported to Nativity Medical Center but later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Inside Bay Area.
"I really don't have any words to describe what we all feel. First and foremost, is the loss to the families and loved ones. Our sincere condolences goes out to each and every one of them as well as the Moto America family. They are in our thoughts and prayers, said Wayne Rainey, Moto America president, according to Euro News.
Investigators and track officials said it was not immediately clear what lead to the crash.
Despite the incident, the race had to go on, providing rider Chaz Davies an opportunity to make racing history.
