Miranda Lambert broke down in tears during her Saturday concert at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Arena in Wyoming while singing her hit song "The House That Built Me," reported People, and fans understand why now. Lambert's divorce from her husband of four years, fellow country star Blake Shelton, was finalized just hours after their split was announced Monday.
Lambert only made it through the first verse of her song before she couldn't hold back tears any longer. She broke down and had to stop singing mid-performance.
"Tell you what, the last thing anybody wants to do is cry in front of 19,000 people," she told her loving fans. "But I bet you know this song so will y'all sing it for me?"
The crowd cheered in acknowledgement, and Lambert's voice choked up as she started them off with the first line of the second verse.
"It starts with 'mama cut out pictures,' can you do that for me?" she asked, and her fans obliged.
The song has a strong emotional connection for Lambert, not just lyrically but sentimentally. It was originally written in 2011 for Shelton, who was her fiancé at the time. He played the song for her while driving home one night, and Lambert broke down in tears after hearing its lyrics.
"If you have this strong of a reaction to a song, you need to record it!" Shelton told Lambert, according to People. After Shelton gave her the song, it became one of Lambert's number one hits and earned her a Grammy.
Shelton reportedly was the one who filed for divorce, as previously reported by HNGN. The former couple released a heartbreaking joint statement announcing their divorce, and asked for privacy and compassion during this difficult time.
