If it seems like the Sacramento Kings have been involved with, or at least interested in, every free agent this offseason it's because they basically have been. They have made a few moves to improve their roster, namely adding Rajon Rondo and Caron Butler, but aren't quite done yet. The Kings have reportedly brought back a former member of the team, Quincy Acy, according to RealGM.com.
After being drafted by the Toronto Raptors and playing his first year and a half there, Acy was then traded to Sacramento where he played 56 games in 2013-14. Acy didn't get much time or have much of an impact, but the Kings must have liked what they saw in him this year with the New York Knicks.
The contract between Acy and the Kings is reportedly for the league minimum and includes a player option for year two. Acy is likely being brought in for depth purposes, since the Kings were close to a deal with Andrea Bargnani, who chose to go to the Brooklyn Nets instead.
Acy is an undersized power forward at 6 foot-7, but he makes up for his lack of size with hustle and effort. Despite being undersized, Acy is a very good rebounder, as he averages 8.6 rebounds per 36 minutes and is always around the ball.
Prior to last season Acy took most of his shots right around the rim, but in his one season with the Knicks he extended his range all the way out to the three-point line. Acy only hit 30 percent of his threes but he is still a threat from out there and has to be respected. He is better off shooting in the mid-range and crashing the offensive glass to get his points, but he has diversified his offensive game since coming into the NBA.
Acy is now 24 years old after three years in the league and, although he isn't a star or even someone who should be starting, is a good guy to bring off the bench to provide energy and rebounding at the very least. The fact that he has added some jump shooting to his game makes him a little more dangerous. The Kings have added another nice piece to their bench.
