New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft hopes Tim Tebow makes the team, although is leaving the final decision to coach Bill Belichick. Although Tebow has had a lackluster preseason, Belichick suggested the quarterback still has a chance to make the team.
Tebow's performance in the first two games left much to be desired - he didn't even play in the third preseason game. In Tebow's limited time on the field, he's put up underwhelming stats: 5-of-19 passes completed for 54 yards and one interception.
Still, Tebow has one big name pulling for him: the owner.
"I'm rooting for him big time," Kraft told reporters, via ESPN. "I'm in his corner, but I have the privilege of letting Bill make those decisions. He has a pretty good record doing it."
As for Tebow, his fate isn't sealed. Belichick said the evaluations of which players make the roster is ongoing.
"I think there are a lot of conversations still going on. I don't think there's a whole lot of that's set," Belichick told the Boston Herald earlier this week. "There's a lot of things we're still kicking around. Some things will take care of themselves; some things will settle themselves. Other things we'll have to make a decision on. When it comes time to make that decision, we'll get as much information as we can, and try to make the best decision we can for the team."
Despite the looming cuts, Tebow's focus is on Thursday's preseason finale against the New York Giants.
"Just prepare, get ready, and go out there and do the best you can with any opportunity you're given," Tebow told The Herald. "Focus and prepare, understand the game plan and what you're trying to accomplish, and do all the same things.
"... I love playing, I love competing; everybody does in this locker room. We all love the game. That's why we're here. So you just want to not focus on that, but on the preparation right now, and that will take care of itself."
Teams must submit their final 53-man rosters to the NFL on Aug. 31 by 6:00 p.m. ET.
