Police in Atlanta are investigating a 2-year-old girl whose mother found her dead while traveling on a Greyhound bus from Greenville, S.C.
The child and her mother, later identified as Alexis Washington, were traveling to New Orleans when the bus made its scheduled stop in Atlanta at 2:30 a.m., according to CBS news affiliate 10 News.
Washington got off, clutching the baby girl to her chest and crying, police said.
Witnesses report later seeing Washington sitting on the bridge crying while holding the child. She allegedly told witnesses that her child was "cold," said Atlanta Police Capt. Terrell Griffin, according to the New York Daily News.
The women called the police and the child was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding where she was pronounced dead, USA Today reports.
