After years of turbulent production rumors going back and forth between fans and the studio, it would appear the Warcraft movie has finally set a date to become a reality. Legendary Pictures has set a production schedule for filming to begin on January 13, 2014 in Vancouver.
According to a tweet from Production Weekly, the studio has already set up offices in preparation for the filming. Director of the film "Moon," Duncan Jones, is already set to direct but there are no rumors regarding casting as of yet. In any case, news of a production schedule must come as a great relief to Blizzard and fans alike. Until now, many fans had given up hope that the Warcraft universe would ever find its way onto the silver screen. Now fans can expect the world of Azeroth in theaters sometime in 2015.
IGN points out that the sudden movement on the project could be a result of a positive reaction to the "sizzle reel" shown at this year's Comic-Con. It's huge success could have prompted the studio's confidence to lock in a start date for filming.
The reel in question showed a soldier on a desolate landscape. He picks a shield up off of a dead body. As the video goes on, green lights crackle in the sky and the viewer gets the feeling that many a brave man has come to this place to die. The soldier picks up a shield off of a dead body just in time to wield it for a charge from a green ogre or orc monster before it reaches him. The video cuts out as soon as the two are about to clash. "It, like Warcraft itself, forced you to use your imagination," wrote IGN.
