Despite concerns over last week's back injury at The Barclays, Tiger Woods will play this weekend in the Deutsche Bank Championship. Woods added the tournament to his official schedule on his website.
Woods is scheduled to tee off at the Deutsche Bank Championship at 8:40 a.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 30. He begins the tournament on hole No. 10 and is paired with Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson, according to TigerWoods.com.
His status for the tournament was uncertain after he collapsed to his knees in pain during the final round at The Barclays on Sunday. Although he mounted a comeback, Woods ultimately finished the tournament tied for second with a -10.
Woods had battled with a back injury since the start of The Barclays. Last week, he blamed his sore back on the soft mattress he slept on at the hotel.
"My neck and back are a little stiff, it was stiff this morning after a soft bed and just one of those things, sleeping in hotels and I didn't want to push it, so just took it easy and chipped and putted," Woods said last Wednesday, via his website.
His back injury appeared to worsen over the course of the tournament, culminating with "big time" back spasms that sent him to his knees.
"The tee shot there [at No. 12] started it," Woods said on Sunday. "Thirteen just accentuated it. I felt great until the tee shot at 12. I was perfectly fine."
Woods sounded reticent to commit to the Deutsche Bank Championship on Sunday and said, "That's hypothetical. I'm not feeling my best right now."
