FX has given Billy Crystal and Josh Gad the hook after one season of their TV show "The Comedians."
Executive producer Ben Wexler announced the cancellation on Thursday via Twitter. "#TheComedians is cancelled at FX. I could not be more proud of the work we all did," he wrote.
The half-hour comedy starred Crystal and Gad as fictional versions of themselves who are paired together to star on a late-night sketch comedy show. Crystal played the season veteran while Gad played the young, edgier comic.
Both actors tweeted their reaction to the bad news.
The series received overwhelming praise from the critics, but earned only one Emmy nomination for Mel Brooks' guest star appearance. "The Comedians" premiered to 878,000 viewers (1.8 million with Live+3) and attracted 509,000 viewers in the season finale (667,000 with Live+3).
