Sharks were seen in Tobay Beach in Long Island on Thursday, marking the second time sharks were sighted in Long Island this summer. An estimated 2,000 beachgoers had been alerted and advised to evacuate the water to avoid any deaths or injury in case the sharks attack, the DailyMail reported.
The beach lifeguard saw the first shark around 11:49 a.m. After an hour, a second shark was seen by the Nassau police from a helicopter. The sharks were approximately 15 feet away from the shore. The first shark was six feet long and the second one was about the same size and accompanied by its baby. Police ordered people not to go into the water, according to the New York Daily News.
Tobay Beach is located in the town of Oyster Bay town, Cedar and Overlook beaches.
Because of the precautions, there were no attacks, said on ABC News.
There was a previous sighting at Overlook beach on July 2.
