Flights from LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C are now resuming after an early morning power outage cancelled over 100 flights and delayed many others.
Crew work being done at LaGuardia airport caused a power outage in Terminal C early Friday morning, which forced Delta to ground many of its flights.
The power went out at approximately 4:30 a.m., according to Port Authority officials. About 120 flights were cancelled at LaGuardia Airport today, and delays averaged to about three hours, according to the Delta News Hub.
Power was restored to the jet bridges at 8:30 a.m. As of 9:30 a.m., the Terminal was operating off of a backup generator. Delta regained access to its communication system by 9:45 a.m.
The outage reportedly caused a lot of stress for many travelers. The terminal was flooded with people all waiting in line to get in touch with agents and to find some kind of solution, according to an attendant who spoke with The Wall Street Journal.
The power outage reportedly occurred when a contractor accidentally cut two of the electrical feeders, and no other airlines in the terminal were affected, said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Delta is urging its customers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport today, according to flightware.com. Flights are still experiencing delays, both inbound and outbound, averaging almost three hours.
