Google co-founder, Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojcicki, the co-founder of 23andMe, are reportedly living apart but are not legally separated.
The news that the power couple Google co-founder Sergey Brin and wife Anne Wojcicki is "living apart for several months" has sent shockwaves across the Silicon Valley. The reason for the split remains unknown but a spokesman for Brin and Wojcicki confirmed to AllThingsD that the couple is no longer living together. Adding to his statement, the spokesman also revealed that the couple remains "good friends and partners."
One of the most high-profile couples in Silicon Valley, Brin and Wojcicki have been married for six years and have two children, a four-year-old son and one-year-old daughter. Both Brin and Wojcicki have signed a pre-nuptial agreement that says that in case they divorce it will not affect the running of the world's largest Internet company in any way, according to the tech site.
Google and Wojcicki's relationship dates back to the company's earliest times. Brin and Larry Page rented a garage in Silicon Valley, which belonged to Wojcicki's sister, Susan. Brin met Wojcicki, who he married in May 2007. Susan joined Brin and Page in the company's early days and was among the first set of hirers. She is currently the senior vice president of advertising and commerce.
AllthingsD reports that Brin is in a relationship with an unnamed Google employee but other media reports have identified her as Amanda Rosenberg.
According to Forbes, Brin is currently worth 22.8 billion. He owns $21 billion worth Google shares, which gives him the biggest share of voting rights. Brin and Wojcicki also share common interests in donations, they figure fifth in the list of highest donors in the U.S., according to Chronicle of Philanthropy. They have contributed $223 million in 2012 and $190.1 million to their Brin Wojcicki Foundation.
