'Deadliest Catch' Producer Gunned Down, Suspect Commits Suicide

A former "Deadliest Catch" producer was found dead next to his own house early Friday morning.

Los Angeles police found the body of 25-year-old Joe McMahon in the street after responding to the 3600 block of Yorkshire Road in the Chapman Woods neighborhood around 2:19 a.m. He was found about one driveway away from his own home, according to Variety.

Authorities are investigating the murder, and have not released many details. It is currently believed that drugs were not involved, and that McMahon did not have any gang affiliation.

Family members say that McMahon left his home early Friday morning to investigate loud noises outside. This is when he was hit with multiple bullets. Witnesses say that the gunmen were in a car, which they used to flee the scene, Inquisitr reported.

McMahon, who worked with the Discovery Channel show in 2013, died before he could receive medical attention for the multiple gunshot wounds. He was officially pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are heartsick about this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him," the Discovery Channel said in an official statement. McMahon produced nine episodes of the "Deadliest Catch" series.

A suspect believed to be involved with the shooting was found dead by police in a car around 4 p.m. on Friday near the scene of the crime, according to The Los Angeles Times. Police say the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but his identity has not yet been released.
