Caitlyn Jenner felt like a prisoner in her own home prior to revealing her new self to Vanity Fair back in June. The magazine posted a short new documentary to VF.com that showed Jenner and the staff from Vanity as they prepared for Jenner's reintroduction to the world as Caitlyn. The short documentary shows special moments of preparing and making the Vanity Fair spread, including the first time Jenner saw herself in full hair and makeup as a woman.
"I had this one time where I looked from a distance and I just thought, 'Oh my god!' It was the first time I'd ever really seen an image of me, who I am. Over-the-top, better than I ever thought I'd ever be, especially at my age. Seeing that image was powerful to me," Jenner said.
The team behind the camera was also interviewed about the top secret spread and admitted that keeping the interview and pictures under wraps until the issue hit stands was anything but easy.
"The photos and text were put onto one computer that was off-line," Associate Managing Editor Ellen Kiell said. "Each day, the designer, copy editor, researcher would work on that one computer."
Kiell had to hand deliver the feature to the printer in Lexington, Ky. in person and was escorted by security that patrols the Vanity Fair Oscar party and the White House Correspondents Dinner.
