The New York Knicks lost out on the star of their summer league team last week when the Dallas Mavericks signed Maurice Ndour to a deal as they had reportedly offered the rookie more guaranteed money than the Knicks. One of the reasons the Knicks didn't want to give Ndour more guaranteed money was because they reportedly preferred to add a veteran big man instead of a younger big guy like Ndour. On that front the Knicks have been recently linked to both Carlos Boozer and Kevin Seraphin according to Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops.
Boozer and Seraphin are reportedly both receiving interest from other teams as well but they are also both looking for different things. Boozer is now 33 years old and is likely looking to win. Last season he was with a bad Los Angeles Lakers team that failed to make the playoffs but he was still able to produce nice numbers in limited time. Boozer averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game in 2014-15 and could still clearly contribute to a team that has a need for a big man off the bench. Boozer also reportedly has interest from the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks and both of those teams have better rosters than the Knicks meaning that they might not be the frontrunners to land Boozer.
Seraphin on the other hand is just 25 years old and has only started 31 out of the 326 games he has played in his five year career with the Washington Wizards. In free agency Seraphin has made it clear that wherever he signs he wants to start and doesn't care so much right now about winning. Up to this point it doesn't seem like many teams are interested in giving Seraphin the ability to start but along with the Knicks, The Lakers, and the Wizards reportedly also have interest. If Seraphin were to go back to Washington he more than likely wouldn't start as they have Nene, and Marcin Gortat in the frontcourt, but the Knicks may be able offer him a chance to start.
As of right now the Knicks starting frontcourt would be Robin Lopez and rookie Kristaps Porzingis but Derek Fisher has yet to commit to the fact that the rookie will be the starter. The Knicks want an experienced big man and while they have interest in Boozer, Seraphin may be the more willing of the two to come to New York because he may have a chance to start there. If the Knicks offer Seraphin a starting spot or at least the chance to start that would likely make them the frontrunners for the former Wizard.
