Yesterday, the Toronto International Film Festival announced its first round titles for its 2015 lineup. The festival is considered to be the opening of Oscar contender season, according to Time.
Jean-Marc Vallee's "Demolition," starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts, will be the festival's opening-night film. Vallee is responsible for last year's Academy Award-nominated film "Wild" and 2013's "Dallas Buyers Club."
The festival includes the premieres of many Oscar contending films, including the world premiere of Ridley Scott's "The Martian," a 3-D space adventure from 20th Century Fox with Matt Damon, and "Black Mass," the story of gangster Whitey Bulger starring Johnny Depp.
Other noteworthy films being shown include Tom Hooper's "The Danish Girl," starring last year's best actor winner Eddie Redmayne as a transgender woman, and "Freeheld," starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page. The festival will also host the world premiere of Michael Moore's latest documentary, "Where to Invade Next."
The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off Sept. 10 and will run until the 20th.
