Andy Murray, the reigning US Open champion, faces Florian Mayer on Sunday in the third round of the 2013 US Open. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream HERE or tune in to CBS.
Murray can add another Slam title to his resume this year with a repeat win at the US Open. The reigning Wimbledon champ defeated Michael Llodra in the opening round (6-2, 6-4, 6-3), and then Leonardo Mayer took him to four sets before Murray pulled out the win (7-5, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1).
Murray continues his title defense on Sunday against Mayer, ranked No. 47 in the World. Mayer is 19-20 on the season with no titles.
Mayer defeated Juan Monaco in the opening round (6-4, 6-3, 3-0), and then Donald Young in the second round (7-5, 6-3, 6-4). Making it to the third round at New York ties a career-best.
Murray isn't underestimating his opponent.
"He's very tough, comes to the net a bit. He has a good slice backhand, but he hits it with two hands, which isn't how normally you're taught to play that shot," Murray told the Guardian. "He has a very good feel up at the net, hits a lot of drop-shots. He's a pretty flat ball-striker and has huge, looping strokes. It can be tough to time your split step and know when he's going to make contact with the ball.
"He's caused a lot of guys problems over his career. I'll need to play well to beat him."
Sunday is the fourth meeting between Mayer and Murray, who won all three of their previous matches. They last played in 2013 at Madrid, where Murray won in two sets after an exciting first-set tiebreaker.
