Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing has been indicted for murder after shooting unarmed Samuel Dubose during a traffic stop July 19. Tensing has now turned himself in to police.
The incident was described by Prosecutor Joe Deters as "the most asinine act I've ever seen a police officer make," according to the New York Times. "[Tensing] purposefully killed him... he should never have been a police officer."
Tensing was fired from the force after his indictment, and is expected to be arraigned Thursday.
Dubose was pulled over, while driving near the University of Cincinnati, for not having a license plate on the front of his car. The hearing showed footage from Tensing's body camera, which has since been released to the media. Dubose was fatally shot in the head, still sitting behind the wheel of his car. He was a father of 10.
A funeral for Dubose was held Tuesday. His family hired Mark O'Mara, who is known for representing George Zimmerman, as their attorney.
"Violence will not be tolerated," Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said Wednesday.
"Seeing that video let me know that my son did absolutely nothing," said Sam's mother Audrey Dubose, according to NBC News.
The killing is one more in a string of crimes against black men perpetrated by white police officers that have occurred around the U.S. in recent months. This includes incidents in Staten Island, N.Y., Cleveland and Ferguson, Mo.
"I can forgive him. I can forgive anybody," Audrey DuBose said of Tensing, according to ABC News. "I'm so thankful that everything was uncovered."
