UPDATE: The trade between the Mets and Brewers will NOT be happening.
I want to be perfectly clear because I've heard this from all angles now: the trade was DONE, pending medicals. And now it's not happening.

UPDATE: Hold the phone...
Alderson just told #Mets' writers "there is no trade" for Gomez and that a deal "will not transpire."

The New York Mets finally landed the middle-of-the-order bat after months of trade rumors. Carlos Gomez is coming back to the team that signed him out of the Dominican Republic.
The Milwaukee Brewers sent Gomez to the Mets on Wednesday night in exchange for starting pitcher Zack Wheeler and middle infielder Wilmer Flores, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman also noted the deal is done pending physicals.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal actually reported the discussion of this trade proposal between the Mets and Brewers earlier today.
Wheeler is currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and won't be back until next June or July, so the Brewers won't have in action until 2016. As for Flores, he's playing in tonight's game against the San Diego Padres.
The deal has not been confirmed by either club.
And here's a reason to be a bit cautious:
Asked official involved with Gomez trade why Flores is still in game. Reply: "No deal is done. The entire world has jumped the gun."

Not sure how to interpret that. Club officials often say such things when deals are at the stage in which review of medicals is pending.

We'll be keeping updates on this trade when more information is available.
